Your three sound insulation options are;
Double Glazed Units, Secondary Glazing or Glass with Sound Control Properties
Your ability to take advantage of any or all of these options, will depend on the type of window frames you current have.
Double Glazed Units - The minimum thickness of a double glazed unit is 12mm.
This consists of say 3mm glass/12mm double glazed aluminium spacer/3mm glass =
12mm. Therefore, if you are retro fitting these units, it is unlikely that your window
rebate will be sufficiently deep to accommodate the unit. If however it is, or you have
new frames, then we can assist you with the supply and install of the units.
Secondary Glazing - Secondary glazing is where a complete new set of windows (in
either wood or aluminium) are fitted to the window frame. Probably the best solution,
however it is a costly option as you are replicating the entire window arrangement.
For wooden windows, Glass Reflections work closely with a carpenter to provide you
with this solution. Unfortunately, we can not assist with domestic aluminium
windows. However, we can assist commercial aluminium customers. Please refer to
pictures below.
Glass with Sound Control Properties - For many domestic and commercial
customers, this is the most appropriate course of action. Glass Reflections are able
to provide you with several glass options ranging from thicker normal glass, to
laminated safety glass or glass that has been specifically engineered for sound
control eg. VLam Hush. To further discuss these options please call our office.
